Posted on May 13, 2022September 25, 2023 by Anay

Google held its I/O 2022 consumer keynote this week, where it unveiled its latest hardware developments, such as the Pixel 6a and Pixel Watch, along with software innovations like an ‘immersive’ view on Google Maps. While the Pixel 6a is confirmed to be launching in India, there are no details yet on when the Pixel Watch and other showcased products will arrive in the country. Google also introduced the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, as well as the Pixel Tablet, which will debut at a later date.

To discuss the highlights of Google I/O 2022, the Gadgets 360 podcast’s Orbital host, Akhil Arora, is joined by Reviews Editor Roydon Cerejo and Executive Editor Jamshed Avari on this week’s episode.

The Pixel 6a was revealed at the I/O 2022 consumer keynote with a price tag of $449 (approximately Rs. 34,700). It comes in three colors: Chalk, Charcoal, and Sage, and features a single configuration of 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. While specific details about the India launch have not been disclosed, Google has confirmed that the phone will arrive in India later this year, with availability expected on Flipkart by the end of July.

Similar to last year’s Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, the Pixel 6a is equipped with Google’s custom Tensor SoC and a dedicated security coprocessor called Titan M1. It boasts dual rear cameras, including a 12-megapixel primary sensor, and a 4,410mAh battery with fast charging support. The design of the Pixel 6a resembles the existing Pixel 6-series models.

At I/O 2022, Google also unveiled the highly anticipated Pixel Watch, featuring a circular domed design and swappable wristbands. This smartwatch incorporates Fitbit integration to enhance fitness tracking capabilities.

Additionally, Google announced the Pixel Buds Pro, its next-generation truly wireless stereo (TWS) earbuds with active noise cancellation (ANC). However, details regarding the India launch of the Pixel Watch and Pixel Buds Pro were not provided during the keynote.
The event also teased upcoming hardware, including the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, which are confirmed to debut later this year alongside the Pixel Watch. The Pixel Tablet is expected to arrive in 2023.

Google also introduced an ‘immersive’ view on Google Maps, offering a digital representation of the world to users via their mobile devices. While this feature initially rolled out in select cities, there’s no word on when it will be available in India.

Google also expanded its Translate app to support 24 additional languages, including more Indian languages like Assamese, Bhojpuri, Mizo, and Sanskrit.

Lastly, the event provided a sneak peek at the next-generation Google Glass, which appears to offer a more natural experience compared to the original version. However, specific details about the release date of these augmented reality (AR) glasses have yet to be announced.
